a new kind of doggy tag

kooga tag

I just found this cool new item for pet owners. It’s a waterproof USB tag that clips to their collar and holds documents, photos and video. It can be plugged into a computer’s USB port to be read and you can put a pdf document in there with your pet’s breed, special food requirements, allergies, shot history, etc. It’s apparently pretty idiot-proof (handy) and can hold 2,000 documents and 100 photos and videos.

There are mixed reviews on it’s usefulness and benefits but check it out for yourself…www.koogapet.com

I just found this cute idea. Your dog can have his or her very own web page, compliments of DogChannel.com! Brag about your four legged friend and share it with the world.

Here’s their schtick…At Club Dog, your four-legged friend can have his or her very own web page. The whole world can know about your pet’s special quirks and cool habits. Plus, you can earn points for prizes in the Club Dog Rewards Zone. Keep checking back, new prizes are added regularly.

I haven’t done it yet, personally but I like the idea – give it a try and let me know what you think.

dogs and kids – playing it safe

November 7, 2007

I remember when I was about 8 and I thought all dogs were friendly. I went up to pet someone’s dog and it lunged at me for a little nip – scared the crap out of me and taught me that you can’t do that with dogs. Dogs are wonderful but they can get scared or feel threatened just like anyone else. Here are some tips for parents to teach their kids about approaching dogs.

If the dog is on a leash, with an owner holding the leash, teach your child to follow these important steps:

W – Wait and watch the dog’s body language. Understand how to tell the difference among angry, afraid, and happy dogs. Dogs show what they are feeling.

A – Ask the owner for permission to pet the animal.  Wait for the owner to agree before you touch the dog.

S – Let the pet sniff you.

P – Pet the dog in the direction of the fur and be very gentle.

And be sure the child puts her hand palm up under the dog’s head so the dog can see it. They sometimes feel threatened when you try to put your hand on their head and they can’t see it.

Here’s the rest of the article – just food for thought…
